Greediness and bitterness. Angry and Unhappy. These personalities and emotions are experienced by this dynamic character. But, how will this bitter old man change into a man who is kind and happy from the man he is? Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, a novel full of morals in which the protagonist experiences and learns from his actions and those around him. The Spectre will show him his unfortunate future, it does not speak, but manages to communicate with Scrooge by pointing. They went to The City of London and the first people they approach is two gentlemen talking, Scrooge tries to listen, but he does not understand. The gentleman states, “It’s likely to be a very cheap funeral, for upon my life I don’t know of anybody to go to it.” The other gentleman responds, “ I don’t mind going if a lunch is provided.” This clearly shows that, no one cared for Scrooge when they heard of his passing, instead they were delighted, not a single human volunteered to have a funeral for him, and worst of all, they will only attend his funeral if their bellies were to be full. Scrooges’ curiousness increases as they continue, they enter a pawn shop, they were surrounded with people talking gaily. Scrooge listens in caution, he does not know that the group of people was happily talking about his death, although he gets hints, he does not try to accept or believe what he is hearing; they may be talking about him. The Apparition continues to not speak and he has led Scrooge to a churchyard where he will learn the name of the deceased man. It continuously points at a certain grave, according to The Narrator, “Scrooge crept towards it, trembling as he went; and following the finger, read upon the stone of the neglected grave his own name, EBENEZER SCROOGE.” Scrooge responds in fear, “Spirit… hear me I am not the man I was. Why show me this if I am past all hope? I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach.” Scrooge’s ultimate fate has been revealed to him and he is in terror, his
