Character Analysis Of Scream Queens

Improved Essays
Scream Queens is a new show that just premiered a little over a month ago. It takes place on a college campus, mainly in the sorority Kappa House. Kappa House has always been known as one of the richest and most prestigious sororities on campus living in the biggest mansion. However, Kappa House has not always had the best history of getting along with the school, and has somehow managed to make an enemy with the Dean. In an effort to reduce the exclusive and catty attitudes of the Kappa girls, the dean declares that Kappa House must accept all pledges, not only the ones that meet the standards of the Kappa President, Chanel Oberlin. All of the sudden the once seemingly perfect Kappa House is infiltrated my girls from all different social …show more content…
Yes, there are a few middle and working class characters, but I could only think of two low class characters. One was known as the Old Hag of Shady Lane. She lived in an empty house and she ate out of garbage cans and stole milk from the milk man. Other than getting, or stealing, food and clothing she never really left the house. However, later on in the series her identity is revealed. She used vertical mobility and is now in the upper middle class or the lower high class, although it is still a mystery as to how she was able to do this. The other low class character went the opposite way, she used vertical mobility to fall from high class to low class. She was a Kappa Sister almost twenty years before the start of this show, and she fell because she was forced to go off the grid to cover up a murder that happened when she was at the Kappa House. She now lives in a trailer miles and miles away from everyone else. When people think of vertical mobility they usually think of dropping one class, not from the very top to rock bottom. What about the middle class? We’ve talked about high class and low class but the show has a lot of middle class characters as well. The majority of the pledges to Kappa House this year are from the middle class. There is a lot of tension between the pledges and the sisters because all of the sisters are in high class, and they definitely …show more content…
You can tell that these people are high class because of the way that they present themselves. They all dress in heels, big furs, fancy big dresses, and heavy jewelry. They act recklessly because they can afford to get caught. During this particular episode one of them even says. “There’s no jail that can hold her, last time we put her in jail she just got bailed out.” and this doesn 't only apply to large scales, even smaller ones like getting into a fight with your friend can be solved by buying her a matching white fur vest. Another thing that I could connect from our class to this episode was that difference in diet between the classes. In one episode the high class references both a lactose intolerant diet and a diet where you cannot eat deli meat. People in the low class cannot eat this way simply because they cannot afford it. The high class is also a place filled with crime, affairs, murders, secrets, and lies. They have enough time to go behind each others backs because they have to work less, it takes them less time to pay bills because they don’t have to decide which ones to pay. They live in pure luxury with walk in closets, big houses and stained glass windows. The life that people like Chanel live completely contrasts the old life of the Old Hag of Shady

The idea of class has been around since the beginning of life itself. It started out as merely an order in the form of a food chain, but as animals and man evolved they developed their own class systems. These include Alpha males and leaders in groups of people. However, man did not stop there. Man took it one step further and put in place a class system based on money and values.…

During Spring Break I watched the movie “The Bling Ring”. This movie tells the story of a couple of high school teenagers, whom all had a good economical status, but were not happy with all they had and went on styling until they started robbing the houses of many famous celebrities like Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, Megan Fox , Lindsay Lohan etc... They go on burgling houses over and over, until they get caught.…

This group lived in urban and suburban neighborhoods that were near central business districts. Families of the middle class held a decent position in society and could afford simple luxuries. The highest class, made up of just one percent of the population, was known as the upper class, wealthy landowning families. The majority of those in the upper class lived extravagant lifestyles, imitating those of French aristocrats during the French Revolution. They also owned lavish mansions that were gathered in rich communities, which were also used to display wealth.…

Coming from my position in life, I often find challenge in analyzing, interpreting, and discussing social class. It weighs on me that I likely bring unfair biases and predispositions to this topic. I am a white, American, educated, athletic male from a family with both parents still together and without many financial troubles. Aside from perhaps a degree from a prestigious University or boat loads of cash, I do not think that I could be more privileged. Although my privilege might sway my ideas on the matter of social class, I am working to remove these biases in order to truly recognize the ways in which the social construct of social class influences the individuals, communities, and institutions that I come in contact with in everyday life.…

In Gregory Mantsios’s “Class in America” he discusses the myths and realities of class differentiation. One thing he jumps into in the beginning of his essay is that Americans don’t prefer to talk about social class. Some people have even stated that they dislike using the word ‘class’ or ‘upper-class’ due to the reason that they believe it mows down their fortune and responsibility. Even though some Americans are concentrated on class identification Mantsios writes that most people aren’t aware of their actions to avoid this subject, this may be because of the fact that “…Class identity has been stripped from popular culture” (Mantsios, 282). It is now deemed ‘un-American’ to even compare certain issues with classes.…

White trash has become a massive history in America dating back from the colonial period in Jamestown to the present day. Isenberg, in her book about the ‘white trash’ and as ‘the face of a white trash’, explains the unpleasant fine points of our national identity, tying to the America’s social hierarchy and how America has never offered an equal opportunity to all white comers. She gives us a very powerful insight about how the imagery of the class system and the consistency of prejudice is evolving over the years. She also traces on the white stereotype from its root of the British belief that the working class was indeed a separate race from the middle and the upper class who were considered as lazy and stupid. The two major points that Isenberg makes a really convincing claim to us an audience is on the very true face of the class system and the ‘White Trash’ which sheds a light on the history of political demography beginning…

In the stories "The Scholarship Jacket" and "The Stolen Party" the author shows us how social class impacts the characters. In the story "The Scholarship Jacket" a girl named Martha is discriminated when she is close to getting the scholarship jacket from her school, but even though she deserves it, a girl named Joann could get it too because her family is of a higher class while Martha is from a lower class. In the story "The Stolen Party" a maid's daughter goes her mothers master's birthday, but then finds out that she wasn't a guest but a maid for the party instead. They both are treated differently because they come from a lower class. One way social class impacts people is when they don't have much money or if they come from a low social class they get treated badly.…
