It is never too late to fall in love for the first time in your life. I could not help myself ,but think of the Facts of Life theme song after seeing the new romantic comedy/drama movie Saving Face. Saving Face is a 2004 movie directed by, Alice Wu, is about an American theatrical release featuring an Asian American lesbian couple. One character that stands out in the story is, Vivian Shing, (Lynn Chen) because, Vivian Shing, is a typical boy-meets-girl, boy-gets-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-gets-girl-again story except its girl, and girl in this clash of cultures, lesbian flick. Vivian Shing, can also be described as a romantic individual for two reasons. This is apparent when the film's second-to-last scene, Wilhelmina, and ,Vivian Shing, engage in a shameless public display of love that does not correlate with the Wilhelmina viewers have known in the previous 94 minutes of the movie Saving Face. During the movie Saving Face, Vivian Shing said “Kiss me. Now. In front of all these people” This showed that, Vivian Shing, wanted, Wilhelmina, to be brave enough to reveal her love in front of a crowd of people. Another example that showed, Vivian Shing, is romantic occurred during her early childhood years with Wilhelmina. During the movie Saving Face, Wilhelmina, and, Vivian Shing had a conversation about their early childhood that started with, Wilhelmina, that said “So how come we never met before now?” Then, Vivian Shing said “We did meet. No... what?” Next the little girl said “Are you going to French kiss when you go to Paris?” Lastly, Vivian Shing, said “go play on the jungle gym” Therefore Vivian is trying to hide her homosexuality, and inner sex craves throughout society with Wilhelmina. So it is clear that Vivian Shing is not only a lesbian, but she has sex cravings as well. In conclusion, during the viewing of the movie Saving Face, this character known as Vivian Shing can be described as: careerist, romantic, sex-maniac.
