Salva as a Character Nelson Mandela once said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” This quotes relates to Salva, the main character, because sometimes he feels that he won’t find his family ever again. In this book, the main character, Salva, has lost his family after a shooting during school, and Salva joined a group of people from his village on a long walk to find refugee camps in Ethiopia. I have chosen the theme about Salva as a character. In the beginning, Salva was weak because he lost his family, the group of men he was with was not being nice to him, and his uncle got shot by the rebels. In the middle until the end, he got a little bit stronger when he got to a new camp, he got a chance to go to America, and he might have …show more content…

(Park, 66), the group of men are were not treating Salva right. “There is no one left to help me. They think I am weak and useless.” This quote proves my point because Salva feels lonely now because the group of men treated him badly, now that Uncle Jewiir died. The group of men never did anything to help Salva at all. That proves that he is getting weaker. Salva and Marial have met and become best friends. (Park, 38), Uncle Jewiir said, “I’m sorry Salva.” In this quote, Salva feels lonely, and very sad. This is because Marial got eaten by a lion. Marial is now gone, and Uncle Jewiir is really sorry, so is Salva. We can tell that Marial got eaten by a lion because, in the area that Uncle Jewiir and Salva were, there were a lot of lions hunting for prey. I’m proving that Salva is even more weak without his best friend, Marial. In the book, A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park, I am trying to prove that Salva is weak in the book. My topic explains that Salva is weak, and I have Provided three supports to show you why he is weak. I chose Salva as a weak character. I believe that because, his Uncle Jewiir got shot by the rebels and died (Park, 62), the group of men didn’t treat Salva well (Park, 66), and he lost his best friend Marial who probably got eaten by a lion (Park,

There are many reasons why “sometimes even living is an act of courage” is a major theme in the novel After the War. After the War is an interesting novel about a young girl named Ruth who joins an underground organization called the Brichah. The Brichah is a group of Jewish holocaust survivors who are trying to travel to Palestine, or Eretz Israel. The theme is evident in many sections of this novel, but clearly shown in Ruth’s flashbacks, Sarah’s Story and in Jonathan’s story. First of all, Ruth’s flashbacks vividly describe some of the things that Ruth had experienced.…

Even after he lost track of his family he stayed strong, for example, a quote from the text states, ‘Then he caught up with the group, determined not to lag behind, not to complain, not to be trouble to anyone.’ (22). Which shows that no matter what, he would stay strong. Salva also persevered when he first heard the gunshots, he ran and didn’t stop running, ‘He ran until he could not run anymore. Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the past thirty years (on that note, even ten years) acknowledges that the world has changed radically. From the rise and further advancement of computers, to the increasing prevalence of bioengineering, and even something as simple as how people discuss things all demonstrate that this is a radically different world from my parents, my grandparents and my great grandparents. With these innovations, problems both contemporary and archaic have reared their ugly heads; one of the greatest of these issues is bullying. This endearing issue, something in which we all have encountered by some means, and by some form, plays a massive role in our world today. Although it seems like this issue is something with no solution, many resources that have been acquired (from our innovations to the literature that has been created by great minds) prove that there are ideas about how to make this issue cease to exist.…

In the Novel Under A Cruel Star, Heda Margolius Kovaly sheds light on the repercussions of not only the German concentration camps in World War 2, but also shows how the War led to the adoption, practice, and repercussions of a hostile communist government. In this novel courage, not only in a power to survive, but in a power to provide for family, is the most prevalent issue brought about in Hedas retelling of her time in the concentration camps and her time as wife to a communist official. One of the most endearing facts about Heda in her retelling of her experiences is that fact how despite everything that she had observed, participated in, and been subjected to she still remained “human” in that she was not misguided by hate and anger but…
