She cannot object to her father because, in the society she lives in, the man’s orders are expected to be followed. The word “fancy” means desires, attraction and in the song there is a question being asked of whether attraction comes from the heart or the head. “It is engineered in the eye” answers the question which means that attraction comes from looking. “While gazing fed, and fancy dies” means that attraction is fed and grows when someone is looking, and then it dies at the end when not being looked at. Portia is basically cheating because she tries to hint at Bassanio not to choose exterior beauty since beauty is only temporary. She’s trying to tell Bassanio not to choose the gold casket. Also in this song the biggest hint comes from the words “bred,” “head,” “nourished,” which all rhyme with lead -- the correct casket in which Portia is “locked in.” Bassanio receives the message and eventually chooses the right casket and wins Portia. Portia cheating shows her first initial step to break away from being kept in chains of the will of her father. At first her admitting to being the object may seem like her giving into the system, but she does this only to fool Bassanio into thinking that he is superior. It may seem like Bassanio has won, but in the end the real winner is Portia. Portia gets what she wants; she marries the suitor she wants and she does this through means of

A few miles south of the outer rim of the Great Fall Forest, stands a gravel trail, lined with massive oak trees and dotted with boulders that wind through a long stretch of lush green grass, and ends at an isolated and forgotten village named Masonburge. Once a thriving, farming village, is now a place of destitute: due to years of warfare and daily raids, that has left its rich wheat fields, barren. Its previously reigning King, Aargau of the Royal Household of the Siganids, controlled several trade lines, supplying Annelida its grain.…

A soft glisten of pale, blue moonlight graced the dark navy sky of Happy Harbour's winding bays as midnight dawned over the city. Twinkling white stars gleamed throughout the dark sky; reflecting in the soft waves below. Cicadas chirping accompanied by the occasional splash of the rising tide, which rose over the rocky shores- frothing and hissing with white foam. The chilly night smelt of salt, accompanied by the skittering of water caught in the breeze.…

“Thank you Old Lady Daniels!” I turn to face the faded white picket fence and continue to lightly skip to a rhythm, trying my best to dodge the cracks of the sidewalk leading out of the lady’s house. She sits on the wicker rocking chair on her dull porch that’s coordinates with her dull house which coordinates with this dull atmosphere. Once I start to get close to the road, I turn to face her to offer her a friendly wave. “Goodbye, Gregory.…

After putting on our bright pink leotards and ballet shoes, which trust me we're not the most fashionable, we went out to the car to wait on Dianna’s mom. I should mention it was still raining as if the earth would flood outside, this made it slightly hard to hear but we ran out to the car anyway. Me, Dianna, and Dalton bolted through the door, sprinting to the car that Dianna had unlocked with the small remote. The cold rain made the humid, hot day not feel as bad as the rest of that summer had been, which was dry and hot. When we got into the car we sat for a bit but then Dianna decided she wanted to turn on the music so she jumps to the front seat of the car.…

Some people say that telling the truth does more harm than good; yet if someone went around asking people whether they would want to know the truth rather than a lie most people’s answer would be truth. But why is this? Yes, the truth can bring peacefulness to one’s mind, but at the same time it can destroy a person completely. In “The Jewelry”, by Guy de Maupassant, through the marriage and death of M. Lantin’s first wife the reader sees the pros and cons of M. Lentin realizing the truth about his wife.…
