In the book Speak there is a girl, Melinda, who is very negative. What made her like this? She got raped in August at a party and this guy, David Petrakis, invited her to his house to have pizza in February and she freaked out and came up with an excuse not to go. After her getting raped at the party she called the cops and everyone thought she did it to rat everyone out, even though she didn’t. She never told anyone what actually happened so now all of her friends now hate her. So, Melinda is shaped into this negative person because one, her experiences, two, her friends. First of all, Melinda is created by her experiences. For example, one of the effects of one of her experiences is, “Nope. I don’t do parties. No thanks” (Anderson 131).
