Vorenus Character Analysis

Lucius Vorenus is depicted in the HOB series as a professional soldier from the XII legion under the command of Gaius Julius Caesar. He is a semi-fictional character and is depicted as a serious, correct and educated man that follows Roman laws above all. He is concern deeply with his family wellbeing and is carried along Roman leader’s agenda in order to maintain the survival of his family. Vorenus always followed his leader commands even when he did not agree with those orders, an example of that is when he and the legion marched illegally under Caesar authority into Rome. He believed that marching into Rome was morally and politically incorrect and after completing his mission he renounced the army (S01E03, 36:11-36:42). Meanwhile, he struggles to maintain his family he is summoned by Mark Anthony to return to the army and offers him the title of Evacati Prefect as well as bribes him with money (S01E04, 13:48-). At the end, Vorenus is forced to accept Mark Anthony offer against his will because he is not successful in finding a good job and needed to sustain his family. …show more content…
This is of great significance because it exemplifies how great Vorenus must have been as a soldier that even Caesar mention him in his notes. In real life, Vorenus and Pullo were part of the XI legion, not the XII as illustrated in the series. Also, Vorenus and Pullo where competing centurions not as described by the series which made Pullo a subordinate of Vorenus. However, is true that both shared extraordinary fighting skills as it is the portrait in the series and that they both had a strange relationship best described as a rivalry friendship. Vorenus and Pullo first appear in the series in the first episode fighting during the Gallic War under Caesar which is probably a scene based on true events
