In the novel The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Liesel's personality changes throughout the book from start to finish and Liesel shows hero traits.

In the very beginning Liesel was very sad and traumatized. She was nine years old when her brother died. We won’t get caught. He started distributing the bread. “So move it Saumensch” (Zusak, 440). When Liesel and Rudy were distributing the bread she knew they could of been in lots of trouble and very badly punished. Liesle showed a lot of courage because she’s also seen the punishing done to her Papa before. However, since Liesel does this she's become a very strong person. “Liesel and Rosa waved. Hans Huberman grew smaller and smaller, his hand held nothing but empty air” (Zusak, 425). Liesel is being strong by waving to Papa as he was leaving. This also was very hard because Liesel doesn’t remember her real dad so this was also her first dad connection/ relationship. Liesel also becomes very persevering through the hard times. “Those first few months were definitely the hardest” (Zusak, 36). In the first couple months liesel's brother died, her mother left, she stole a book, And she has to live with foster parents. She read to the people who lived on Himmel Street while they all stood crammed into a basement during the air raids, and her readings calmed the people down and had the ability to distract them from the fact that their homes might be ruined as bombs went off above them. Ilsa Hermann had told Liesel to write more, and as Liesel usually did, she listened to her and decided to write a book and what she had seen in her life. She was writing when all of Himmel Street went down in flames and everyone she loved had died except for Max and the mayor’s wife.…
