In the novel The World Made Straight, Leonard is seen as a passive character that bends to the world around him. As the novel progress, Leonard has to deal with the main antagonists Carlton Toomey and his son, Hubert Toomey, this causes Leonard to change. I think the main reason that Leonard stopes being so passive and sends the truck off the side of the mountain was the fact that he cared so much for Travis and Dena. In the novel, Leonard loses his daughter and job from pleading guilty to a marijuana charge in which he did not do. Leonard felt as if he had nothing else to live for and he felt that he had to find the courage to stand up to the bully Carlton Toomey and protect Travis and Dena. This causes Leonard to send the truck off the side
