Journey To The Center Of The Earth Analysis

In the story, Journey to the Center of the Earth, the main characters are Professor Hardwigg, his nephew Harry, and their guide Hans. Professor Hardwigg is a tall thin man with wiry glasses. Harry is a young boy who is very scared of the journey to the center of the Earth and he tries to a secret from his uncle and their Icelandic guide, Hans. Hans is a very strong man who will save Harry and Professor Hardwigg countless times. The book takes place in several locations including Hamburg Germany,Reykjavik, Iceland and Stromboli, Italy. Plot
The story starts with Professor Hardwigg reading an Icelandic book. His nephew Harry walks in and Professor Hardwigg shows him the book then a small piece of parchment falls out and it was decoded Runic (The …show more content…
Professor Hardwigg and Harry spend many hours trying to find out what the parchment message was. Eventually, Harry fanned himself with the parchment, but as he looked at the parchment backwards he saw the decoded message. It read: “Descend into the crater of Yocul of Sneffels, which the shade of Scartaris caresses before the kalends of July, audacious traveler and you will reach the center of the Earth. I did it” -Arne Saknussemm. Harry tried to hide the message from his Uncle but he soon decoded the message and he started to say “We begin our journey tomorrow”. “To where?” asks Harry “To the center of the Earth” replied his Uncle. Soon, Professor Hardwigg pulls out maps and explains where they were headed. He pointed to Iceland and said “Sneffels is a dead volcano on the coast of Iceland.” They packed up and headed to the ship heading toward Iceland. After 11 days at sea, they finally arrived in Iceland and had dinner with Mr.Fridriksson, a famous scientist from Iceland. He introduces Hans who becomes their guide, but little did he know, he would help make history by going to the center of the Earth. They started to make their way up the mountain, Sneffels to head to
