Personal Reflection
How political do you consider yourself?
I should be considered highly not political since in most case I am extremely direct in term of communication. Despite having good intent, it is seldom well received by the majority of the people because to a certain degree, agreeing to what I said means that they had been wrong all this while. This is something that is hard to stomach since it is something that they view as face losing. I also viewed everyone equally and the highly influential individual is not given any preferential treatment. Everything is strictly solved in the best interest of the company, the personal interest of any of the stakeholder is never viewed as something that should be satisfied. What I meant is not

It is just my personal belief that politics is seldom used for the good, I strongly believe in open transparency and common vision as guiding principal. If I have to resort to politics, it simply means that the company probably have some form of a major problem trying to get everyone on board with the company’s vision. This will severely handicap the company competitiveness even if you play all the cards right on the political front.
Push comes to shove if things get to the stage that the company’s survival is at stake or the people within it is at risk of being sacrifice. I would be extremely upfront with my most trusted peers and share with them my master plan to resolve the matters at hand. I provided them with my intent and actions so if I ended up too overly engaged in negative politics, there can be a check and balance there to rein me

Some people actually like the refreshing side of me being direct and especially since I have no self-interest. A lot of people started off hearing bad things about me and how I strong armed and lash out at people for not meeting the standard since I seldom explain my actions before I execute. But over time as more and more stories of great stuff I had managed to achieve, people mindset change. They realized that I am not actually a wonder child but I dedicated all my time and energy into fixing the actual problem rather talking and painting a beautiful picture. Some of the negative people also realized that while people are praising them and plotting a mass retrenchment for them, I did the opposite, I lashed out at them publicly and demanded that they improve or leave. In the end, those that woke up their idea and turn the situation around found a new position elsewhere in the company while the rest who live in the beautiful stories painted by the restructuring director woke up to a pink slip. That is the general reason why I refuse to change much, I believe the most important thing is to be genuine and seriously show that you care. If they choose not to appreciate it, it is their

Abraham Lincoln famously remarked that “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” The power belongs to those who want to get the top position in organizations with personal qualities, such as leadership, humility, ambition, etc. In this book, Jeffrey Pfeffer examines how to get the power from the individuals’ perspective to make and implement decisions by considering various situations. Also, he describes that power is a positive mechanism in managing the organizations effectively since he has also viewed it as obtained common profits or gains through collectively working together. Such opinion of him about power is diametrically opposed to our common norm that power connotes a conservative…

    JUNG Typology Assessment

After completing both the DISC and JUNG Typology assessments, there are many outcomes that I found interesting. For starters, in the DISC assessment there were multiple categories that gave me various feedback. These included decisive, interactive, stabilizing, and cautious categories. My decisive score showed moderately low on the “D” spectrum and I thought that was very accurate. I tend to be hesitant on sharing my opinions in big group setting and I also would rather support someone else’s decisions rather than argue with them unless they are completely wrong.…

In January of 1986, a conference call was conducted between NASA and Morton Thiokol Corporation engineers. The next day, the space shuttle Challenger was scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Engineers with Morton Thiokol attempted to convince NASA to delay Challenger’s launch because the icy temperatures could cause the O-rings to fail, leading to catastrophic consequences. The O-rings sealed the rocket’s motor joints; made of rubber, they were likely to lose elasticity in the freezing temperatures the night before the launch. Morton Thiokol’s engineers were unable to persuade NASA to delay the launch and within a minute of take-off, the Challenger’s booster rockets exploded, destroying the shuttle and all its occupants, including…

DP 6 Posting! According to Bolman and Deal (2013) effective leaders have the ability to move fluidly between and among the four frames should conditions require to do so. Furthermore, Bolman and Deal (2013) argue effective leaders utilize all four frames to develop strategies and a full range of solutions for organizations. Leadership and Change Being a change agent can sometime be looked as the person that is “rocking the boat”. Having a strong desire to make positive changes in an organization should not be looked as a bad thing; it is not always easy especially in dealing with others that are resistance to change. Through the Change Leader assessment I found myself to have a strong attitude towards change, scoring a seven; honestly not surprising as my rank recently increased and the organization I recently joined. As a strong change agent, I needed to identify obstacles that can affect change from happening along with the object or process that is needs to change. Following the stages of change in an organization is important especially when trying to…

As one who has been an external consultant in the past, experience would say that internal consultant 's would be able to make a better impact on a company then external consultants. An internal consultant may have limited perceptions and may be a part of the company already. They may add a different approach to how something is done because they have seen it done in the past and have applied the techniques themselves. They are also expected to have an in-depth knowledge on what the company needs to better its position in their industry. They are hired at a lesser rate than outside consultants.…

During my teaching career I can remember several conflicts, but one stands out above all others. It was my 9th year teaching in special education. I had a new co-worker with three years special education experience in another district, and the department head that was in his second year teaching. The new co-worker had a takeover/take control personality and ran the department most of the time. The department had a policy to check each other’s paperwork before and after IEP meeting to reduce errors.…

    Politics In Canada

When first considering what politics meant to me personally, I started by looking at definitions of the term. A definition that can be applied to the term politics is the academic study of the government and the state. I feel as though this specific definition closely exemplifies what politics means to me because all of my experiences with politics have all been associated with my recent study of political science here at Lakehead. Based on this definition, the meaning of politics relates to the study of government, how government functions and the effects that it has on the state. This is due to the fact that the only experiences I have in politics have been through the various political science courses I have taken over this past year and…

Politics affect every single thing in our lives, because politics are the basis of how our government responds to the problems we face everyday. Even if we don’t care to admit it, each and everyone of us have political views. These views form the foundation of our political identities. However, we are not born with these political identities. Each identity is the culmination of our views on each issue, efficacy, and party affiliations all of which are formed gradually as we are exposed to different influences in our lives.…
