In the 2008-2013 TV series 90210, character Erin Silver struggled with bipolar disorder. Though, throughout most of the series Silver is on her medication, there are instances where she does not take them for various reasons, leading her down a destructive path. When not on her medication, Silver struggles with maintaining her relationships and making logical choices. In most cases, these two struggles go hand in hand, where her making poor decisions leads her to temporarily ruining her friendships with other characters. For starters, Adrianna becomes an outcast from their group of friends after she is exposed as the one who switched her pills. Another example is when silver went to extreme measures in her manic stage, she did something to negatively and permanently affect her boyfriend at the time. This also resulted in their breakup and a temporary hold on any type of friendship in the near future. Also, at another time without her medications, during a depressive stage, Silver had temporarily broken off her relationship with her boyfriend and temporarily ended a friendship because she felt as if they could not understand her after they accused her of being off her medications. Both times, Silver was also able to ruin every one of the friendships she had affecting everybody. In the end, people were extremely affected by Silver having bipolar disorder just as much as she had been. Overall, having bipolar disorder may have negatively affected Silver and the ones around her, but it has become a part of who she is. Silver was able to overcome her disorder and be able to grow from it. In many ways it was an obstacle for Silver, but in many ways it was also a way to help her become the person she is, and a better person. It helped her realize the value of friendship and being able to mature from it, and to become the person she was when the series
