Counting by 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan is a heartwarming and inspiring novel about a young girl who lost her parents and learns about life on her journey of recovering from her loss. Firstly, the story’s plot moved along naturally without any confusions or hindrances. Every action or thought was conscientiously supported by a cause or a reason, which aided in making the story flow smoothly. Furthermore, the characters’ traits were remarkably well developed. Each character had a distinctive and unique characteristic, which no other character had. Moreover, each of their personalities stayed firm throughout the story, not exhibiting any behavior that seemed out of their original character or impression. Despite the excellent flow, there were a few flaws that could have been remedied. One of the flaws is the faintly abrupt ending. Regardless of the fact that the ending was engaging, pleasurable, and extremely relevant to the story, the resolution was a mere two chapters, which gave an impression of a slightly hurried ending. The ending, although it was well written, was somewhat diminutive. Nevertheless, the rather rushed ending did not deter the book from delivering its meaning and story clearly and unquestionably and did not pervert the plot nor the

The novel is well rounded, but only falls short due to the accidental mistakes made by the author. Nonetheless, the fact that the book is followed by several sequels ultimately provides the possibility that the author fixes the issues within the next installments. However, despite being a well rounded novel the book at times is dragged out with unnecessary additional words where the author attempts to further describe her point. The reader at times will have to re-read several passages to understand the repetitive word choice and will have to overcome the lack of suspense within the novel’s key…

The strengths of the book are the rich and detailed backstories that are created for most of the core characters and their diverse personalities, their complex inner struggles, and their relationships with each other. A captivating portrait of world and the characters is well described. Each main character has great turmoil. What works nicely is the idea of the relationship between Big Jim and Big T, but the audience wants to see more of this in real time, vs. being told about their friendship. One wants to watch them meet for the first time and see how they came up with the idea of working together.…

How did I feel about the book Unlikely Allies? I had lots of difficulty reading the book, from the sudden changes in scenes to the exhausting writing. It felt like a sloppy mess of sudden twists and turns that would, in most books, keep me intrigued, but this did not interest me at all. If the author added just a little bit of flair to the certain parts of the writing then I think I would really enjoy the book. The book had things I didn’t like, a few things I did like, and a couple things I would change.…

I began to look beyond their actions to consider the root of their not so favorable characteristics. The author has the ability to bring out the root of character flaws without boldly revealing them. There were many revelations that were revealed about the characters past. The revelations revealed motives and roots behind many of the actions that took place.…
