In the book there where many mother figures. Calpurnia was one of them and I think she is the best mother figure for many reasons. One reason is that she wants the best for Scout and Jem. Calpurnia is always sure to let the two kids know when they are doing something wrong. When she is mad the kids say that her grammar is not well. Her ways of letting Jem or Sout know what they did was wrong may be a little harsh but it sure does help the kids learn from their mistakes. Calpurnia also taught Scout how to write. She would make Scout sit on the kitchen table and then make her write things down. Lastly Calpurnia diciplines the kids. This is a trait that all good mothers have but they need to be able to discipline their kids poroperly. Calpurnia can …show more content…
Scout really appriciates this and it takes Calpurnia a long time to make. She does not make it often and when she makes it it is for a special time. Calpurnia is like another parent to the kids. She does alot just like a parent would. She teaches the kids how to act. She lets them know when they are doing something wrong and is sure to tell them the right way. Calpurnia is a good mother figure for the Jem and Scout. Another mother figure is aunt Alexandra. She is not a good mother figure. She is rude to the kids and people. Aunt Alexandra rarely talks to the kids but when she does she usually says something rude. For example the fist thing she said was, “put my bags in the front bedroom Calpurnia”. The second thing she said was, “stop scatching your head Jean Louise. She is being rude and not being like a mother. Aunt Alexandra also says mean things about the kids because Scout has overheard her speaking with Aticus and heard that the mean things she was saying were about her. She also does not let the kids do things. When the kids were specifically asking Aticus something she barged in with her anwser and that was no. The kids do not like this. She also dictates the family in a

Next, Jen must read to Mrs. Dubose because he lost his temper and vandalized her yard. In chapter 13 the children are left alone with Calpurnia, and they learn a great deal about the black folk of Macomb.
