Tobias Wolff’s short story “Bullet in the Brain” tells a story about Professor Anders life through a flashback. Anders was shot in a bank while being caught in a robbery. To say the least Anders had a very difficult personality. Some would also think he was crazy. As he always said what was on his mind no matter what. Anders had a somewhat good life with a very outspoken mind which ending up costing him his life. Anders was a very outspoken person no matter the situation. During a bank robbery everyone was told to be quiet. The bank robbers barged in and said “keep your big mouth shut” (Line 22 Wolff). At the time everyone was staring at the robbers and were too scared to even talk. So for them to say that they meant it. Everyone listened except Anders as he later said “Oh, bravo Dead Meat” (Line 24, Wolff) mocking the bank robbers comment. After making two remarks to a lady in front of him he was warned. The lady in front of him got the idea the bank robbers were serious. After being told to “Shut his trap” by the robbers. The lady in front of him tried to help also by saying please be quiet sir. “Hey you deaf or what” said the robbers at this point Anders outspoken personality had brought him face to face with the robbers. HE had a wife and also a daughter who was a professor. He also cared for his mom who passed away saying things that can lead the reader to think he had a slightly hard life.
