In the book, Maniac Magee, the author, Spinelli, composes and lets shine through that Amanda Beale is a very mature character throughout the book. For instance, in a couple chapters in the book, Amanda was walking to school, and came across an unknown character (Maniac). She started talking and walking with him. He asked to borrow one of her books that she carried in her suitcase. Amanda really wanted to get on her way because otherwise she would be late. Amanda heard the first bell, and screamed. The unknown character that we now call, Maniac, kept nagging and bugging Amanda to give him a book. Amanda really was trying to be responsible and mature, and not be late.
