In the second paragraph, Sedaris writes “but the students exhibited an ease and confidence I found intimidating.” (Sedaris, 1999) This shows his first sign of adversity, he is setting up the story with the stress he is placing on himself. The author then goes on to describe his first day, and the first encounter with the teacher, in the article he writes “We didn’t know it then, but the coming months would teach us what it is like to spend time in the presence of a wild animal.” (Sedaris, 1999) With this line, we are introduced to another key adversity in his story, the teacher. Challenges that come from having this style audience are due to the subject at hand. While Sedaris seems to have written this article to capture first-time students, my essay will be towards a more seasoned academic audience. With this in mind it could be tough trying to get my point across, perhaps some of the audience members never felt this way prior to starting school. Or it’s possible that this type of situation for them was so long ago, that they no longer can connect to the feeling that the article touches on. In these cases, it is plausible that they could get a different vibe from the article and a completely different
