Character Analysis In the play Macbeth by Shakespeare, Macbeth is faced with difficult perplexing conditions, responsibility and power, and letting his guilt take over.
In Act 1 Scene 5, Lines 39-72 Macbeth is faced with a difficult situation. Lady Macbeth invites Duncan to the castle for dinner. Duncan is not aware that night he will be killed at the castle. Macbeth was told by the witches in Scene 1 that Macbeth will be king after Duncan, so Lady Macbeth wants Duncan dead, so that Macbeth will be made king and she will be queen. When Macbeth hears of this plan he is not in favor of it. Lady Macbeth begins to tell Macbeth, their devious “excellent” plan. One of the servants starts laughing in his sleep saying “Murder!” The other servant cried “ “God bless us!” “Amen!” “Amen!” This made Macbeth worry and begin to think that they had seen his bloody hands. Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth that they aren’t too worry too much about what’s happening or else it will drive them crazy, which is exactly what happened to Macbeth. When Macbeth went to sleep he began hearing things. “Sleep no more! Macbeth is murdering sleep!” Macbeth also saw Banquo’s ghost sitting at the table the next day. This drives Macbeth’s paranoia into overdrive. Macbeth then starts thinking about the next person he’s going to kill which is Macduff. He is so paranoid that he thinks Macduff fled to England with Duncan’s son with word of what happened. Macbeth killing king Duncan. Macbeth wants Macduff’s family dead. Macbeth also has been told by the witches “anything born from a woman cannot kill you.” Macduff and Macbeth meet up and Macduff kills Macbeth in a feud that they had.
