Character Analysis: Lily

Equally important, Lily manages her own life after she runs away from her abusive father. As soon as Lily turns fourteen years old, she escapes her home because T-Ray punishes Lily all the time and she does not have her freedom at home. Meanwhile, Rosaleen is in the jail because she disgraces bunch of white men. When Lily visits Rosaleen at the jail, she suggests, “You’ve got to get out of here,” (46). As soon as Lily escapes her house, she haves Rosaleen free from jailhouse because if Rosaleen stays at the jail any longer, she will get killed by those white men. In any case, Lily continues to watch over Rosaleen as an individualistic person because Lily senses that it is what Rosaleen deserves after taking care of Lily for more than a decade.
