Character Analysis: Jan's War Change

War changes Jan to be a rude, impatient and mysterious person. He does not talk to people the way other people do and always protects himself from strangers and soldiers. For example, when Ivan comes to visits Ruth and other children, he is attacked by Jan. “There was a flesh of a knife near the soldier’s neck” (p. 27). Jan is being rude to Ivan as well as to Captain Greenwood. When the captain question him, he does not answer him in a polite way. “Jan collapsed on the floor, panting and angry, his eyes flashing” (p. 55). He does not behave in a good way as he should do.
