In Ender’s Game, Ender Wiggin is a child surrounded by technology all the time. He grows up with new advances than the world is used to today. One game is called “The Giants Drink.” He has to get past the giant by choosing the correct drink to get into Fairyland (Card 62-65). After many attempts, he gets upset and ends up killing the giant (Card 65). The narrator explains, “He had not meant to kill the giant. This was supposed to be a game” (Card 65). Even though Ender is upset about killing the giant, it was easy for him to do it. He thinks like a computer. Ender does what he needs to do to get past the giant and win the game. After playing this game and the older boy’s game, he has won multiple times. Maybe it is not easy at first, but Ender learns how to get past obstacles. His brain is beginning to think it is okay to do whatever it takes to get to the end and win. As Ender is playing these games, it becomes normal to be in some sort of battle. He acts fast and learns how to maneuver around and use his gun (Card 55-61). The novel does not indicate that Ender figures these obstacles out through technology but he very well could be if he paid enough attention to it. And now that he is learned the basics of starting a battle, he begins fighting with his colleagues against other students (Card 61). He does not have a problem with practice battles because he has already mastered techniques from the video games. He does not feel any empathy towards the other players. He is not actually hurting anyone but he is thinking like a computer would and getting the job done by knowing he has the upper hand and knows the maneuvers. Card writes, “In twenty minutes, everyone in the room was frozen except Ender, Bernard, Shen, and Alai. The four of them sat there whooping and laughing until Dap came in” (61). Ender and his friends think it was funny (Card 61). This is a battle simulation which would be something to be taken seriously and the boys are laughing. This brings the point back to that of Ender playing these games and constantly using this technology is influencing him. He can easily defeat someone in one game and easily kill a being in another game so it seems easier
