Literary Analysis: character analysis
An individual’s persona and character can have an ongoing effect to how they react to events. However, it is how they react to these particular events that can affect the overall purpose of the author’s text. In which, this all relates to Chinua Achebe’s novel, Things Fall Apart, as Okonkwo’s personality traits lead to how he reacts to certain cultural events. These events being, the disruption of a new western culture slowly gaining dominance and control over Umuofia's traditional ways of living with the influence of the Christian religion The way he reacts to the situations, in particularly, sways the text as a whole; as well as shows the author’s purpose and meaning of the piece of literature. Nevertheless, it is Okonkwo’s dominant character that leads to his violent reaction with foreigners of a different culture. His reactions to that event furthermore shows that the author’s purpose of the text represents that a few mistakes can lead to one major disaster in the long-run.

This, leading him to disown his son, and attempt to go to war with Christian missionaries; when he ended up committing suicide as a result.
