Curley’s Wife
In the novel “Of Mice and Men” there is this woman known as Curley’s wife she is known for her beauty, her beauty is her power, and she uses it to flirt with the men on the ranch and make her husband jealous. She is utterly alone on the ranch, and always seeks attention from every little thing.
Even though Curley’s wife is a woman of beauty and a woman that desires to talk to anybody her loneliness can always wear her down. She is always seeking attention and finding ways to talk to some of them men on the ranch but she still feels entirely alone. None of the men on the ranch care for Curley’s Wife and very little attention is given to her. However many of the men only see her as object. …show more content…
Once Curley’s wife went to the riverside Dance Palace and met her future husband Curley she gave up on her dream to become an actress she blames her mother for this like she blames others for all her mistakes.”‘If I’d went, I wouldn’t be living like this” (78), she moved from her home town in Salinas to the ranch in Soledad, California. The men on the ranch think that she is unfaithful to Curley, and is always running around the flirting with the other men on the ranch. The men will not talk to her because they don't want to be seen with her, Curley is very protective of his wife, because Curley only really sees her as a possession. He does not love her, but holds her as a prize, like a trophy. He is a "gold-glove" boxer and the men do not want to get into problems with Curley especially since he can tell his father (the ranch owner) to fire any of the men. Curley’s wife always stops and thinks of her past and her future someday she wants to leave the ranch and leave everyone behind, “ One day i'm gonna leave this ranch, and leave Curley and every one of you men”(76).
