Brooks: “He’s okay by my standards.” His was a voice of reason and that starts and ends as a voice of reason for the Sherlock, always explaining and supporting Sherlock’s actions and motivations. He was one of the few characters who never openly admonish Sherlock for being tough on people who commit crime. Timothy’s optimism and positive outlook remain steady, even after he loses his house in a fire. He also represents the more open-minded person who sees the error in Sherlock’s social structure, but not in him.
