In the uncommon romantic tale of Charlotte Temple, Susanna Roswson depicts a different kind of loyalty throughout all her characters. In essence, each character has their wide-ranging eyes fixed on achieving some variety of self-serving gratification. Unfortunately, this behavior is often at the expense of naive Charlotte. Charlotte’s loyalty lies within her devotion to others. In contrast, the other character’s loyalty lies within, in order to meet one’s own selfishness while not thinking far past their own pleasure.
To illustrate, Charlotte is a young girl blessed with the guardianship of two loving and devoted parents that adore their only child. In addition to her innocence she if afflicted with indecisiveness.
