Angela McCourt
Angela is Frank's mom in the book. She is sometimes referred to as "Mam". She leads a very difficult life. She loses three of her children in the novel and has to deal with her husband who has a serious alcohol problem and no job. As a result she has to beg at many aid agencies. She considers the welfare of her children above all else.

Malachy McCourt
Malachy McCourt is Frank's father and Angela's husband. He is an alcoholic. He brings a lot of troubl to his family as he spends all of his dole money every week on pint (alcohol) while his family starves.
Malachy McCourt
Malachy is Frank's younger brother by one year and was named after his father.

Oliver and Eugene McCourt
They both were twins

Frank had become a great acquaintance with him. He used to help Patricia and Frank communicate. After Patricia died he used to recite the poetry that Patricia used to recite to Frank. He had learned this poetry from a man at the local pub. In the eye hospital he used to recite this poem and make everybody cry.
Mr. McCaffrey
Mr. McCaffrey was Frank's boss at Eason's Ltd. Frank had given up his job as a delivery person to get the job there. Eason's Ltd. was a company that imported and distributed the protestant newspapers from the Northern part o Ireland. Frank once had to rip off all of the page 16's from one of the magasines that they had delivered.
Ms. Brigid Finucane
Lots of people owed Ms. Brigid money and so she hired Frank to write threatening letters to such people every week. Frank would make a great deal of money from her and tok 40 pounds from her which he used to go to America in the end.

Mr. O'Halloran
Mr. O'Halloran was the headmaster at the school Frank went to in Limerick. He had taught Frank in the sixth class. He was called as 'Hoppy' by all of the students because he use to hop on on leg. He had encouraged Frank to get secondary school education and go to University but when those doors were slammed at Frank, he encouraged Frank to go to America and find good emplyment rather than stay in a dead-end job in th country of

His parents met in Brooklyn, New York. His mother Angela becomes pregnant with Frank and later marries the Frank’s father Malachy. Malachy is a drunkard and spends all of his wages on alcohol while Angela struggles to feed her family which is growing with her having many kids. When Margaret dies Angela becomes depressed and so the McCourt’s decide to move to Ireland. In Ireland Angela has a miscarriage and the twin brother’s die. Malachy continues to spend all of his dole money and wages on pint. He wins everyone’s love and affection by entertaining them with stories about Irish heroes and the people who live on their street. While in Ireland, Angela gives birth to two more sons, namely, Michael and Alphie. When Frank turns ten years old he is confirmed Christian/ Catholic. He gets sick right after his confirmation with typhoid fever. He is sent to the hospital where he stays for months. He gets introduced to all kinds of literature in the hospital including Shakespeare. When he returns to school, he is kept back in fifth class, but when they see that he writes really well he is bumped up to the sixth class. When World War 2 starts many Limerick men and young teenagers go to England to work and send money every week back to their families. Malachy goes as well and never sends money back.
