Salva’s uncle was a huge factor in helping Salva get through Sudan. He did very many things for him. First of all, his uncle helped him by hunting for him. For example, once he shot an antelope for them to snack on. “That very day, he shot a young antelope, the kind called a topi.” (36) I think this helped Salva because Salva was young at the time and didn’t know how to hunt or find food. …show more content…
Once, Salva along with hundreds of others were forced to cross the River Gilo by soldiers. Most were either shot, or killed by crocodiles. “The soldiers were forcing some of them into the water.” (77) Also, Salva came across a bunch of people that were very desperate for water and wanted to help them out by giving them some of his own water, but his uncle denied because he wanted Salva to use the water for himself. “No, Salva. Your are too small and not strong enough yet. Some of the others- they will be able to manage better than you.” (58) I think this helped Salva realize that while you should think about others, it’s a good thing to think about yourself once in awhile, especially while surviving. That is why I think Salva’s survival instincts helped
