They’re going to South America to go hunting. Rainsford is a professional hunter who has written a few books about his experience. While his bunkmates head off to bed Ransford wants to have one more smoke before bed. As he is standing there looking over the seas they hit a high wave and his pipe hits a rope and falls overboard.
