The Dinner Party Summary In the book the Dinner Party by Mona Gardner takes place in India. This book starts off by a colonial official and his wife are given a large dinner party. They had the party in there beautiful dining room. But one thing that the guest didn't know was their was a snake in the room full of people. Then, as the party went on the guest, none except the Americans notice this boy placed a bowl of milk on the veranda. In India, milk in a bowl means only one thing, bait for snakes. Lastly the Americans noticed the reaction of the hostess she knew that there was a snake in the room the whole time because it was crawling across her feet.
