Narrator: The Battle for the Solomon Islands, it was harsh battle against the Japanese, and a big turning point for the allies on the way to winning the Second World War. It all started on August 7th, 1942 when the first American troops landed on the shores of the Guadalcanal which was captured by the Japanese who were allied with the Nazis. Japanese infantry were building air bases on the islands of Solomon Islands to further strengthen their control over the region by . The Americans realized that retrieving the Solomon Islands might maim the Japanese forcing them back to Japan and make it easier to reach Japan itself.

It would help them supply naval troops in the Pacific Ocean as well as those on the islands. On August 7th 1942, American marines landed on two islands in the Solomon Islands. The two sides fought a series of naval battles which made the Americans short on supplies. The Americans won most battles, however, the Japanese who were closer resupplied their troops night after night. Battle after battle the Americans numbers started to decrease, but the Japanese made many mistakes and spread their troops very thin. So even with fewer troops the Americans were able to win more battles. Eventually, Americans started landing on the islands and building bases on land. However, on land the Americans faced many problems. Japanese main forces were quickly eliminated from presence. The problem was Japanese troops that were remaining hid everywhere and each carried a sniper. Day after day Americans searched everywhere for remaining Japanese troops. The death toll of Americans quickly grew, but since the most of the Japanese troops were dead, the Japanese couldn’t gain an advantage.
