Important events from chapter 4:

When Zee Prime asked the Universal AC about the galaxy where mankind originated, his thoughts were "guided" by the AC. The AC showed him the original galaxy but he was disappointed because it looked just like the other galaxies. This event is important because it shows that the new galaxies that the humans in the story were occupying are no different from the galaxy where they originated. This tells us that their means of living might not have changed that much.

In this chapter, the AC is called the "Universal AC". It was mentioned in the chapter that each AC designs and constructs its successor. It takes each AC about a million years to accumulate the necessary data to build a better, more intricate, and more capable successor. The Universal AC was said to be in "hyperspace". It hears everything. This is significant because it shows that ACs are constantly improving as time goes on.

The Universal AC wasn't able to answer Zee Prime's question about how entropy can be reversed. Because of this, Zee Prime began collecting interstellar hydrogen which he will use to build a small star of his own. This event is significant because it shows that Zee Prime still has the

Only white dwarfs were left and they too were starting to fade. Man knew that eventually everything will come to an end. He asked the Cosmic AC if entropy can be reversed but it still had insufficient data to provide a meaningful answer. Man commanded it to collect data but the Cosmic AC said that it has been doing so for a hundred billion years and that it has been asked the same question many times already. Man asked the Cosmic AC if the problem of entropy is insoluble in all conceivable circumstances. Cosmic AC said that "no problem is insoluble in all conceivable circumstances." This event is important because it gave Man a reason to hope that someday, the problem of entropy will be

Anything we reflect that is big and important isn’t actually as big and important as we believe that it is. Adams establishes in the book that we are not that important when he wrote, “Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-two million miles is an utterly insignificant can’t little blue green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea” (Adams 1). In fact, that quote shows that we don’t even amount to anything. We often make a big deal about things that aren’t truly that important.…
