It's often said that science fiction warns us about things that ultimately come true. When you look at the majority of science fiction literature, when you think about it, this comment seems absurd. Most works of science fiction in today's media are centered around topics like Alien invasions and zombie uprisings. However, when looking at somewhat realistic topics like nuclear destruction and deadly viruses things start to get interesting and you ask yourself “what if this actually happened”? Station Eleven by Emily John Mandel explores one of those relative topics by going through a scenario that answers the question: what would happen if a flu-like disease with a 99% mortality rate was to sweep through the earth? Covid 19 is similar in the way that it also starts in a specific region and is spread around the world by people traveling. At the beginning of chapter three, during a phone call between Jeevan and his friend Hua, Hua talks to Jeevan about how dangerous the Georgia Flu is and how fast its spreading. We learn that the flu is able to get to the US because officials in Georgia and Russia try to downplay the severity of the flu and due to the lack of knowledge about the flu, a girl is able to fly from Moscow to the US carrying the flu and contaminates the airplane passengers who land in an airport in Los Angeles. The infected passengers were then transported to the hospital Hua was working in. Covid 19 spreads in a similar way when people infected get on planes and travel around the world infecting others. In Chapters 4 and 5 of Station Eleven, we learn about the people's reaction to news about the Georgia flu spreading
