1. Ralph- A 12 year old boy who is one of the oldest and he is the group leader and he try's to organized groups to help build shelter.
Piggy- Ralph's left hand man and he tends to wine a lot but he is also known as Ralph's "Lieutenant".
Simon- A young boy which is the shyest out of all of them, Simon has good intentions, is always well mannered towards others and he loves the nature.
Jack- A older boy on the island, he takes advantage of his power and gets to be cruel as time goes on.
Sam & Eric- Twin boys who choose Ralph's side, the boys are always together. The others think of them as one and the other boys call them "Samneric".
Roger- A bitter boy who likes to hurt people.
The littluns- The youngest boys on the island who are around ages 6 and mostly tag along with Ralph.

3. The symbol of authority that the boys have is the conch shell. The conch shows who is the boss, and who has the right to speak at times.
