Chapter Summary: Gmos's Effect On The Environment

No One wants to harm their overall future life… but using and producing Gmos might do just that. Gmos or genetically modified crops are plants that are harvested with certain chemicals (Borel 57) that add flavor to foods. However, questions about Gmo's effect on the environment, the human body, and the worldwide economy. Gmos will harm people’s overall lives through the environment, t and the economy. First off, Gmo’s will hurt the environment. “Clearly, Gmo’s won’t fix the food shortage problem… However, gmo plants release dangerous biofuels that can pollute the air.” (Borel 58). Do people really want to use a risky product for something that won’t even fix the problem it is designed for. Furthermore, the author argues that non- covered plants can cause increased dust in the air (Connally web). Increased dust leads to more dust storms, which can cause problems for the habitats of many animals. The air is an essential part of the environment. And the pollution caused by Gmos could leave a permanent mark on the air people need to live. It seems the economic state of agricultural farming is starting to fall where gmo plants and farms are (“GMO Economics”). “One of the major gmo problems is the uncovered soil, which is a trademark of gmos, leads to dustorms that can damage crops and property.” (“GMO Economics”)This costs lots of money to the average person, which could mean less money for other businesses. As the author states, the biggest loser in gmo farming is the regular farmers, who lose out on lots of money because of a lack of need for their crops. With farmers losing money, they will eventually become unemployed because of it, leading to even more of a financial crisis for the agricultural industry (“GMO Economics”).
