Parking Garages were now inhabited by office space, it seemed that in the four decades he was alive everything about the world he and Orr shared was slowly being destroyed.
“I could make them all happy, I could make them have real buildings,

“And yet he lets this city, this country, this world wallow in the destruction set on to us.”
“With his power I can make sure that everyone has a change to succeed, and who will they turn to when they realize that their poor luck has been changed?” Haber put his hand on the window and smiled as his brain put together the pieces that the universe handed him. “Of course, that is why the universe put me here! That is why it handed me Orr, because it knows that I alone have the will to change the universe and make everyone happy.”
“Still I should do more testing, make sure that there aren’t limitations on his power and see how much he changes.” Haber put together a little schedule, first he would start small. Only him and Orr seemed to be aware of the change, but he could still convince Orr that he was crazy. Maybe he would start with creating a pink dog, “Could I change the entire genetic line of the canine evolution, would stories of hunters and gathers with pink wolves show

“And when all of this is over, everyone will finally thank Doctor William Haber for his job, and will be grateful to me. I will make sure that Orr’s grip on this world is put to good use and I will make this world great again.”

Excerpt from The Great Fire by Jim Murphy It was Sunday and an unusually warm evening for October eighth, so Daniel “Peg Leg” Sullivan left his stifling little house in the west side of Chicago and went to visit neighbors. One of his stops was at the shingled cottage of Patrick and Catherine O’Leary. The one-legged Sullivan remembered getting to the O’Learys’ house at around eight o’clock, but left after only a few minutes because the O’Leary family was already in bed. Both Patrick and Catherine had to be up very early in the morning: he to set off for his job as a laborer; she to milk their five cows and then deliver the milk to the neighbors.…

It can be said that within the core of every human being, lies a certain amount of darkness. While this is true, it can also be said that this internal darkness can only surface given the right opportunity and within the right environment. However, once this darkness does manage to emerge, its force is powerful enough to destroy the very part of us that makes us human. This darkness and evilness of man is a prominent theme reflected in the setting, plot structure, and characterization of Joseph Conrad’s, Heart of Darkness and Oscar Wilde’s, The Picture of Dorian Gray.…
