1. The reason why I choose this quotation is because this passage describes the huge fire from the side and also expresses the author’s writing style. It is easy to see that the author preferred to describe people about their sayings, appearances and performances. In addition, I really like the word “lamentable”, the author used lots of words to describe the lamentable fire. The passage illustrates that everyone tried their best to knock down the flame and also reflects the social situation at that time---Poor people were homeless and even did not have the ability to fight against with the plague and the fire.
