Chapter 3 is a very critical chapter because it touches on diversity in the classroom. Label jars not people was a very important heading, I thought was critical in the chapter. Many labels are often attached to people like the stated and it is very important we see students as children and students not labels. As future teachers it is important for us to promote respect for student’s culture, race, and ethnic identity and we should highlight everyone’s culture and ethnic background in our classrooms. We could highlight students cultures and ethnic backgrounds in many ways for example we could create an assignment where student’s talk about their ethnic backgrounds and cultures or have student’s bring something that is a part of their culture. …show more content…
According to the text, “Parents and students who are very poor are judged and punished for their poverty and difficulties” (77). This is often true and I believe future teachers could change this. The text offers a great variety of information on what we can do to help children and youth are really poor. I thought the ideas very great. I thought the work to eliminate homework or create homework that could be reasonably done by children who have unstable home situations. I think this is very important because poor students may not have time to do homework at home. It is also assumed by teachers that all students have technology to complete homework at home and this is not always the case. Many teachers often tell students who don’t have technology to go the library. This may not be ideal for a poor student because they may not have access to the library. It is also important for a teacher to print all the information for students because a poor student may not be able to print his or her own
