In a guided self-assessment of study habits and strategies, ED 3100 students have been challenged to embark on a journey of self-exploration in an effort to better understand our own learning processes, as well as determine how different methods of studying and learning may affect our overall success. Dr. Demars (2015) explains that exploration and knowledge of our own techniques and learning strategies will then empower us, as future educators, to facilitate the same attributes in our students. She emphasizes that the better we (as teachers) understand our own learning processes, the better we can understand those of our students, and consequently help them self-assess to achieve a better understanding of their own learning. Although this exploration has raised many questions for me, there were key themes that stood out amongst others. By constructing an unbiased system of measurement, I am experimenting with deliberate and strategic changes to my study habits that are explicitly designed to address and correct weaknesses in my current study habits that I will track over a period of four weeks.…

Since the beginning of my first year at school I have been learning to read and write. Throughout these years I have had a lot of experiences with reading and writing. All through high school we would write responses and essays over books we read. Once I entered college everything changed; I began to learn about writers and people who were known because of their great works of literature. In college, you are held to a higher standard and responsibility than you are in high school; this challenge has encouraged me to work hard and because of this I have become better at writing.…

In order for English Language Learners to effectively ascertain the language, it is important that those students are exposed to linguistic input they can understand. In a text such as Beowulf, it is mandatory that a simplified version of the text is provided to English learners because of the already complex nature of the original text. Beowulf in its aboriginal form, Old English, is too far removed from the Modern English Language spoken today. Not only must we provide a translation for English Language Learners, we must first have provided a translation to our general education students as well, but, there should be differentiation in the translations for the two separate groups. For the general education learners, I suggest an elaboration…
