Chapstick Monologue

I was sound asleep in my bed when I heard something break downstairs. I pounced out of bed and grabbed a ChapStick as my weapon. I’m not quite sure what I thought a ChapStick was going to do to a robber but whatever. I was sprinting down the stairs, but I tripped over Crinkles the cat and went tumbling head over heels to the bottom. The ChapStick flew out of my hand when I went airborne and hit me straight in the nose while I was laying there. I got up quickly, pretending that falling down the stairs never happened. I held the Chapstick over my head ready to do whatever I intended a ChapStick to do to a full grown person. I flicked the light on and yelled, “Who’s there!” There was nothing strewn on the floor except for my favorite lamp, shattered on the ground, and the rug was all lumpy. I stood there for a moment, then went back up the stairs to bed, figuring that maybe my puppy Buddy got up to get a drink and slid on the rug right into the table. …show more content…
I watched the news all day to see if there were any reports of houses being broken into last night. About midday, I realized that I didn’t even check the rest of the house retiring back to bed. Gosh, I am so stupid I thought. “But nothing will scare me from now on” I said to myself. I was laying on the couch when I said that and Crinkles casually walked by, jingling her collar. I screamed and fell right off the couch. “Whoa… it’s just Crinkles. Okay, starting now, nothing scares me.” That night, I walked up the stairs very slowly, glancing back after every step, and I left all the lights
