The changing nation of the U.S. reflects a growing sense of national pride and identity in many ways. After the war of 1812, in the U.S. everyone is high on nationalism because of the defeat of the British. During James Monroe’s presidency, called The era of good feelings, is where everyone is high on nationalism and The government makes questionable decisions because everyone has too much nationalism they don't want to go against what the government is saying. Andrew Jackson knows the Republicans aren’t real republicans, The federalist joined the Republicans and gave them their ideas. Therefore he forms the Democrats that put a new spin on the government. During the era of good feelings, many things happened.The government becomes a bigger part in U.S economy. The government passes tariff on foreign goods to keep competition away. The government establishes another National bank in 1816 and it is run privately not by the government. The government is now prioritized over the states. In McCulloch v. Maryland, Maryland wanted to tax its national bank branch but the court ruled that a state cannot pass any law that violates a federal law. In Gibbons v. Ogden, A steamboat traveled from New Jersey to New York with different travel tolls, but the court ruled Interstate commerce can not be regulated by the states. Also, U.S. has a greater role in the World. The Spanish gave up Florida to the U.S. because they could no longer protect it. In the Monroe Doctrine, The U.S. said that they would protect the new nations of Latin America. The U.S. has better trading relationships. Most of these ideas are federalist ideas and Andrew Jackson sees what is really happening
