Grit is the passion and perseverance for long-term goals as defined by Angela Lee Duckworth. Grit exists in everyone and in every field. Grit proves that is isn't just ability that can allow people to succeed. She quotes that “Galton (1892) collected biographical information on eminent judges, statesmen, scientists, poets, musicians, painters, wrestlers, and others. Ability alone, he concluded, did not bring about success in any field. Rather, he believed high achievers to be triply blessed by “ability combined with zeal and with capacity for hard labour’” (Duckworth 1088). Even psychologist from years prior, that studied this topic discovered the existences of grit and did their own study to prove it. Even though so many people have done their research, little is still known about grit. But one thing is for sure, though. That change mindset has a definite effect on grit. If we can change the mindset of young adolescent teens to do better in school then they’re likelihood of them succeeding is higher. Carol Dweck stated in her research “Through a series of exercises, the experimenters trained half the students to chalk up their errors to insufficient effort, and encouraged them to keep going.
