Sirian was only 10 years old when she had to walk all the way from Honduras to the United States alone to be reunited with her mother. This was an 1,800 kilometer walk, day and night with barley any rest. Sirian came to the United States not even knowing how to speak English or Spanish, but it was worth it to her to be in the United States with her family. When Sirian arrived in the United States and began school, she faced racism. In the film, it shows Sirian reading a poem to her fellow classmates and talking about how they did not know her story or past, yet they bullied her. Thinking of someone that young taking that journey only to come the United States to be bullied within our school system killed me.
Overall, Latino: The Changing Face of America really opened my eyes to a lot of issues that I was unaware of and also showed me how the growing population of the Latinos demographic is truly going to affect our country as a whole politically and socially. Some would even say that the Latinos will be able to control the vote of the presidential elections due to their large demographic. I am extremely happy that I went to see Latino: The Changing Face of America because it was informational and the passion from the discussion panel was
