I would like to acknowledge and pay my respect to the traditional owners of the land on which we meet - the Jagera and Turrbal people. The most essential and foremost symbol that represents our country for over 100 years is our National Flag. Foreigners recognise it as the most honourable and proud symbol of our country. So, why is there a move to change the Australian Flag?

Firstly, our current flag has the Union Jack which is located in the upper-left canton and in the fly there is the Southern Cross. In the lower-left canton The Commonwealth star is situated. This star represents the six original states of Australia and the 7th point represents the territories. The Southern Cross represents Australia’s position in the Southern Hemisphere.

I have made my new design for Australian flag more colourful than the current flag. The purpose of doing this is to tell foreigners that Australia is as colourful and diverse as its own flag. This flag has blue, black, red, yellow and green on it. I use blue on the flag to represent liberty and prosperity. Australia is a fertile country and this is represented by the green colour. My perspective of a thriving country is it must represent every single bit of its residents. Therefore, I’ve used black to symbolise the Indigenous people, which is the first group of people that had found and lived in Australia. On our current flag, there’s no trace of the Indigenous people so it means that Australia is not playing fair to those who found out our priceless land. Red determines our valour however yellow will indicate justice. Theses colours will make international dwellers interpret why Australia is unique and
