Changes In HIM Practices

The world of HIM seems to be in a state of constant change. With the implementation of ICD 10 and other advancements in the field, it is very important to stay up to date on current HIM practices. This is one of the biggest issues facing HIM professionals today. In January of 2014, the AHIMA Council for Excellence in Education released their updated curricular competencies for all accredited academic programs. (citation) The purpose of doing this was to ensure that all HIM programs were up to date on current practices. By doing so, it gives students the proper skills needed to perform their job at an optimal level in the healthcare industry.
