In the novel Fahrenheit 451, the main character Montag changed a lot due to the other characters around him. Too many rules restrict the freedom of choices. Too many rules also make it difficult to follow. However, without rules, too much freedom might cause people to become savages. Savagery poses a challenge to civility through the following people and symbols: Jack, the sow, and fire. Jack Merridew was the first one to turn toward savagery, and perhaps the most important reason for causing all the savagery on the island.…

In Lord of the Flies, the boys are influenced by environmental factors and biological factors. Biological factors are our impulses, our need to eat, our decision making, and environmentally is the situation you’re in; how you react to it. In two articles, Martyn Shuttleworth’s “Stanford Prison Experiment,” and Amanda Leigh Mascarelli’s “Teenage Brain,” they both discuss the effects of biological and environmental factors on the brain. Therefore, the large amount of evidence supporting how environmental factors and biological factors both play a big role supports that the boys are affected by both biological and environmental factors. One compelling reason, in Lord of the Flies Jack is impacted by environmental factors in the story since his attitude changes drastically throughout.…

In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, conflict - both internal and external - portrays a major development in the theme and plot of the young boys in this novel. On an island composed of only pre-adolescent boys, it is unquestionable that there would be conflict amongst them. Golding blatantly shows the reader the external conflicts that occur between one another, including both physical and verbal altercations. The author also cryptically gives the reader a display of the conflict the boys struggle with within themselves and their own thoughts. Despite the many instances of external conflict, the subtle internal conflicts are much more critical to the plot and overall theme of Lord of the Flies.…

The character who changed a lot in the book is a boy named Reese. He started out as a boy who didn't like to hang out with his family. Then at the end of the book Bad Island he started to enjoy being with his family. I think one of the purposes the author wrote this book is to show kids that doing activities with your family or being around your family is not so bad, it's actually good. Being with your family is important because when you grow up you have to go live somewhere else away from your family, so you want to treasure the times you were with your family and be with your family.…

As famous British author Jane Austen once said, “Every savage can dance.” This relates to how Jack and his followers dance around instead of building shelters or improving the structure of their group. Ignoring structure does not often result in a positive outcome because it is the basis of the a society. Without structure one cannot focus on perfecting a society. Although Ralph’s lack of control is instrumental in the growing chaos on the island, Jack was the one who ultimately pushed it past the breaking point because he disregarded the moral code and ignored the need for structure in society.…

Cannibalism in general reflects one’s lack of humanity as willingly eating another human being equates the human into only being food and nothing else. The victim’s experiences, hopes, and dreams mean nothing anymore, their new purpose being something to fill the stomach of a savage. Stranded with no food in a mountain blizzard, some people in real life were forced to commit cannibalism to survive, but they “felt guilty about consuming their...comrades… [and] were not keen on eating flesh” (Cochran 25). This intense guilt and self-awareness of the atrocities they’re committing are completely lost to the cannibals in The Road.…
