In the 1920s a lot of things changed but somethings stayed the same. One thing that stayed the same was women's rights. One key aspect of the 1920s that showed change was the women. The Flapper movement is a movement in which women would smoke and drink openly, cut their hair short, wear less clothing, danced, and used birth control. These things that the flappers did was new and seen as unusual because women would spend more time out having fun and less time maintaining the household. Another aspect of the 1920s that change from the past was the Harlem Renaissance and the New Negro movement in the 1920s. The Harlem Renaissance was a clash of African-American culture in New York. Along with all of the culture of the Harlem Renaissance, jazz music was produced. Jazz music allowed musicians like Louis Armstrong to become mainstream. The New Negro Movement was a movement for blacks to become less submissive and more self-empowering. This was changed through the 1920s because African-Americans became a dominant role in American culture. Another cultural change in the 1920s was mass society. Mass society is when new products and technologies could reach a larger nationwide audience. Mass society includes mass production, mass transportation, mass entertainment medium, mass marketing, and mass culture. Mass production included assembly lines and standardization of parts. Mass transportation included commercial flights, trains, and cars like the Model T. invented by Henry Ford, founder of Ford Motor Company. Mass Entertainment medium or mass media included radio stations like NBC, CBS, MLB, and the NFL. The mass society also led to major urbanization in popular cities.
