Change In Sophia's War By Avi

In the book Sophia’s War by Avi the main character Sophia witnesses things that change her life completely. At the beginning of the book, Sophia is only 12 years old, a young and innocent child. Her family if fleeing from the war which has moved into her city, New York. When her father finally decides that it is safe enough Sophia and her mother to go back they start out to their old home. On the way they see many rebel and loyalist soldiers they try to stay away, but they end up being in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were just walking when they spotted loyalist soldiers about to hang a rebel soldier. When they arrived to their home they were told an english soldier would be staying with them. When the soldier, John Andre arrived Sophia instantly was curious and intrigued by him and his charm. He changed Sophia too, she let herself indulge in childish thoughts and began to have feelings for him. She was blinded by is charm, and sometimes forgot that he fought for everything she was against. This she soon realized though, so she decided she should try to forget those feelings until maybe one day see could open them back up again. I think this helped her gain more control over her own emotions and she got better sight of her priorities. Another thing that really impacted her life was her brother William. He had taught her to read and write, and was a strong believer in the rebel cause. When the revolution began he joined the rebel army. Sophia was very proud of him, but scared too. He would often communicate with his family, so when they stopped hearing from him they became very concerned.
