For example, the main character Victor is not very confident around his crush, Teresa, on the first day of school. Throughout the short story Victor learns not to be subjective towards people and act like himself.
Body 1 In the short story “Seventh Grade” by Gary Soto the thought is change in personality happened in the story because of some of the events in French Class. The text states, ‘“She smiled and said, “Hi, Victor.” He smiled back and said, “Yeah, that’s me.” His brown face blushed. Why hadn’t he said, “Hi, Teresa.” or “How was your summer?” or something nice.” (Soto 23) Teresa talking to Victor may seem like a very small thing to others but for Victor it takes all his energy. Victor was nervous so he stuttered and messed up what he was going to say. Victor was taught to act like himself after he messed up.Also the text reveals, ‘“Yes, now somebody give me an example of a person—you, Victor Rodriguez.” “Teresa,” Victor said automatically.”’(Soto 21) This show the thought that Victor zones out and thinks about Teresa. When he is called on he just says Teresa because she is always on his mind and doesn’t pay attention to the answer . One thing Victor can learn from is to think before he speaks. The author states, ‘“He raced to metal shop. After metal shop there was biology, and after a long sprint to the public library, where he checked out three French textbooks.”’ (Soto 25) This event happened after Teresa asked him for help with French. This event shows how after he talks to Teresa that’s all he thinks about. This shows how like before Victor needs to think before he speaks. Meeting and talking to and about help him learn to think before he speaks and act like …show more content…
Also Victor is deciding his friend about how he looks. After his friend shows him how to scowl he thinks it is not him. This shows Victor needs to stop being subjective towards people. The author states, “‘..., Victor tried scowling. He felt foolish, until out of the corner of his eye he saw a girl looking at him.”’ (Soto 23) This shows how Victor instead of deciding what Micheal (his friend) did he tested if scowling really worked. This interaction helped Victor taught to question things he is confused about. This helped Victor become a inquirer. Learning to scowl helped him learn to not to be subjective to people and helped him become a

Are traditional nuclear American families really the most encouraging families compared to any other families or ethnicities? As stated in the article, “The Color of Family Ties” by Naomi Gerstel and Natalia Sarkisian, “Commentators often emphasize the disorganization and dysfunction of Black and Latino/a family life. They suggest that if we ‘fix’ family values in minority communities and get them to form married- couple households, all their problems would be solved” (51). In other words, commentators believe that if unmarried Black and Latino/a families or single parents found a soul mate and married that there will be fewer complications within their family. However, Gerstel and Sarkisian claim, “Even if they don’t live together,…

We were not born to initially understand the responsibilities of adulthood. Everything after birth is a learned behavior, we either visually or physically learn something; we are taught how to walk, how to run, and how to write are own name. As we grow older we are more aware of our surroundings, so we are able to choose from what we find an interest in. Figuring out what we like helps in deciding what we want to learn and what we want to become, all of this is based off the actions we see in other individuals and our surroundings. The narrator in “Greasy Lake” by T. Coraghessan Boyle, has altered his characteristics throughout the story, but by the end he comes to the realization of who he wants to be, by accepting and acknowledging his faults, being aware of who is around, and choosing to let go of negative events that occurred in his life, due to this the narrator has become mature.…

Hernando de Soto stated that capital is like energy and that it is a dormant value. However, we know how to create energy like burning wood in stove produces energy in the form of heat to cook food, boil water, or warm a home. The same cannot be said with capital. We have a pretty good idea what it is, but we are not as good at turning capital into economic potential. De Soto also defines capital as the parallel life of an asset.…

Cognition, as defined in our notes, is the “mental processes related to acquisition, storage, and retrieval” (Frank P. Gengaro, Ph.D., MSW, M.A., LCSW, SI, TM, TM, TL, TMC, TTP). This basically means that cognition has a huge part in acquiring information and storing the information in an efficient way so that we can access it whenever we need to. The main way that we study human cognition is through the humanistic perspective. The humanistic perspective suggests that we are social creatures who interact with other social creatures for the sole purpose of survival. We use cognition in an adaptive, as well as, maladaptive way to survive.…

As Victor states on page 40, “I need not describe the feelings of those whose dearest ties are rent by that most irreparable evil, the void that presents itself to the soul, and the despair that is exhibited on the countenance.” Victor’s focus after the event is on the rending of his dearest ties- the upset of his life and the lack of ability to change it. After this traumatic event, Victor falls down a path of emotional detachment and despair- and thus the cruelties of life in turn inspire him to perform his own acts of cruelty. Another act of cruelty that influenced Victor’s ideas and actions was during his studies at the University. This is most concisely expressed by this quote by Mr. Krempe on page 43, “ ‘Every minute,’ continued M. Krempe with warmth, ‘every instant that you have wasted on those books is utterly and entirely lost.…
