Throughout my high school years, the english classes I have taken are way different from college. See... I never wrote an essay every week or so, or having my research paper be acknowledged with organization, development, expression, and grammar errors throughout my essay like it’s been done in college english classes, and I say research paper because that's what I would mainly write in high school. So now finishing my first college quarter of English 101 and having learned so much more to properly writing an essay, like eliminating “to be” verbs, properly using an author's work by citing them, run-on sentences, sentence fragment, proper use of quotation marks and parenthesis, and even MLA style of writing.
The first essay I brought to the table was my Diagnostic essay, which differed from the rest of the class, due to me joining ENGL 101 later in the week of the first week of school. One of my sentences, which was a run-on form my essay “With That Passion”, went like this “it was kinda being my thing; a hobby I liked but it wasn't just if they were hurt, i would just liked to lend a hand to be kind to people.” I did not need to use the semicolon after “thing” a comma could be placed there, after “but” too. Also putting a period after “hurt” and capitalizing “i”, but because of it also being a sentence fragment, it changed to “it happens, and I enjoyed being helpful”. In this essay, I learned transitional devices too. I knew about them, but what I didn’t know was that it would sound and flow better throughout my essay if used correctly, although I did not use them as much, it was great to know these certain words to helped to idea shift and to compare with your
