As a demonstration of the importance of power, let’s take Koolhaas and Urhahn (2014, 2:25) who created an idea and acted upon it, thereafter members of the community began to give their input. Power is obtained by educating self on power (Lui, 2013, 3:05); people must learn power, wake up and have a voice (7:10). It is apparent the power can be voluntary or involuntary. Similarly, in Philadelphia which is known as the poorest city in the Unites States Koolhaas and Urhahn (2014) expanded their project and received the same outcome. The interpersonal interaction presented in Philadelphia was nothing short of amazing; as per Guest, Cove, Ross, & Kubrin (2006) it is crucial that neighbors maintain contact with other to protect their investment or localized interest. Contrary, these neighborhoods don’t have residents who are exactly moving up in life, implying there are some aspects of the anomic neighborhoods. According to Kirst-Ashman (2011) the anomic neighborhoods indicate there are more gangs, guns, drugs, public housing and low-income families; which was evident in Vila Cruzeiro and Philadelphia. Both communities are very informal which limit the value implementation of education, reducing crimes and empowering residents (Kirst-Ashman, 2011)
These communities are operated according to social class and by definition would be considered an urban community as it supersedes the two thousand five resident communities known as rural (Kirst-Ashman, 2011). Social Workers must focus on human diversity and the importance of poverty, cultures, social class, ethnicity and sexual orientation (Kirst-Ashman, 2011). Social Workers as a facilitator will use advocacy to seek external resources for their clients and community. This will allow for a better understanding of the organization and communities they are interacting
